Online Funeral for PETER COMMERFORD

Dear Scheyvillians:

Re: Remote Funeral Service for Peter Commerford (4/68)

I have today received the email below from Les Boag concerning the on line funeral service for the late Peter Commerford (4/68). It is to be held at 2.00pm on Monday 11th May.

Frank Miller
National Chairman, OTU Association.

Hi Frank,

Can you please let our OTU association members know that while we will not be able to physically attend Pete’s funeral, his wonderful dedicated wife Carolyn has provided the attached document with details of the link to the service and the order of service for those who wish to join online.

Fellow 4/68 classmates,

While I would have attended if allowed, and provided Carolyn with a framed Statement of Service (SOS) for Peter, I have sent the SOS to Carolyn and will be joining the Pete’s funeral service online. I hope you are all able to also join the service online.

Subject: Vale: PETER WILLIAM COMMERFORD 4/68

Dear All,

Peter passed away peacefully at 12.15pm yesterday, Sunday 3 May 2020, with his wife Carolyn and his daughter Bridie by his side.

Peter was a proud OTU graduate of Class 4/68. He served as a Platoon Commander in South Vietnam from 4 Nov 69 to 29 Oct 70 – firstly with 1ARU, then 5 RAR and finally 7 RAR. Since his 40s Peter suffered from Huntington’s disease. Until 9 January this year he was being cared for by Carolyn and living in their home in Drummoyne. With the care and help of his daughter Bridie he was able to join the 4/68 reunion in 2013. Sadly Peter’s condition worsened to the extent that he was no longer able to move himself nor talk and Carolyn could no longer manage his support. Thus, Peter had to be moved into Ferndale Gardens Nursing Home in Mortdale NSW. I visited Pete there on 16 march 2020.

Carolyn has advised: It was so wonderful you were able to visit him as the Nursing Home was locking down. We had not seen him in person after lockdown until his final day although we were fortunate to have a relative working there who face timed him most days. Not sure when his funeral will be but it is only for immediate family at this time.

Carolyn’s address is: 72 Gipps Street, Drummoyne NSW 2047

Remembering a fine officer and a true gentleman – RIP Peter Commerford

Passing of Mick Hart

Dear Scheyvillians,

We have received the sad news that Mick Hart (2/69) passed away at 12.30 pm today.
He had been fighting serious health problems for some years and his condition had
markedly deteriorated over recent weeks.

Mick is remembered for his longstanding service to his Class (2/69). They
have been over the years a most cohesive group. Not only have they held
regular reunions around the world as well as in Australia, but they have also
maintained a close contact with each other whilst at home. Mick has been
a tireless force behind nurturing this fine camaraderie.

Furthermore, his contribution to the National Association and to the Queensland
Chapter over the years has been exemplary. In recognition he was deservedly
awarded Association Life Membership.

We have lost a fine Scheyvillian and a respected friend.

Our sincere condolences go to Trisha and the family.

Frank Miller
Chairman, OTU Association
