Vale – LTCOL (Rtd) Peter John Phillips 4/68 – Funeral Arrangements 6 Feb 23

The following advice has been received from Les Boag:

Very sadly I advise all fellow OTU Scheyvillians that my 4/68 classmate, Peter John Phillips, passed away on Wednesday 25 January 2023.

After graduation, Pete and I were posted to 2RTB Puckapunyal where Pete met his wife Marianne.   Marianne has just advised me that Pete’s Funeral service will be conducted by Glenelg Funerals at The Mawson at Centennial Park in Adelaide on Monday 6 February 2023 at 2.00pm ACDT  (that is 1.30pm AEST in QLD, 2.30pm AEDT in the other Eastern States and ACT and 11.30am AWST in Perth).  Marianne has advised Centennial Park suggest those joining online connect 15 minutes before the service.

The link for the Service is:

https://www.centennialpark.org/funeral-services/stream/?nid=8f3e1f4d-63ac-4a58-8bd7-86adeb25ab29

The link also allows:  Leave your mark with a memory, story or photo you want to share with family and friends.

For those who did not know Pete, he graduated to Infantry and served in Vietnam with 1 ARU – 3 Dec 69-25  Dec 69, HQ 1ALSG 26 Dec 69-4 Apr 70 and 8RAR 5 Apr 70-5 Nov 70.  Pete retired from the Army as a LTCOL and he and Marianne settled in Glenelg SA.

RIP – Peter John Phillips

Warning Order: New Vietnam book about to be published

Mentions in Despatches

Dear Scheyvillians, we received this notice of a book to be published shortly by

David Sabben MG (1/65).

Frank Miller.

Chairman, OTU Association.

G’day All,

Belated Seasons’ Greetings and best wishes to all for 2023!

This is an early warning that I am about to publish a new book.

It is titled “Mentions In Despatches” and is essentially a day-by-day

account of an infantry platoon in the first year of 1ATF at Nui Dat.

It will be A4 sized, 400+ pages, hardcover and on good quality art paper as

it has 500+ images, many from AWM and similar quality sources –

a ‘coffee-table’ quality book (printed in Australia!).

I don’t have a publish date yet but I’m told to expect it sometime in March

(with the usual “all being well” caveat).

I have put together a website to tell the essentials of the new book –

to include a few (24) sample pages and to include such text as the

Contents, Intro, and Preface, (with Foreword and Index to come.)

Please do a recce patrol to https://sabbenmidbook.com/ when ready.

The “BUY NOW” page is not yet commissioned (coz I don’t have books to

send) but please be aware that the cost per book will be AUD$80

plus postage (maybe $12 or even $15? – TBA). To be ordered via the

website only (they won’t be distributed and sold thru bookstores).

(There will be a bulk order deal – buy multiples of 10; get 11 per 10 – to assist

with group-, club-, association-, etc. orders. This will be detailed on

the “BUY NOW” page – click the shopping trolley icon.)

I will send out an update to this email group once I know the publishing date

and have fully enabled the “BUY NOW” facility in the website.

Meanwhile, please feel free to send this email (or its pertinent contents)

as far and as wide as you would like to. Also to put it into newsletters,

onto Facebook or wherever there may be interested readers.

If you would like to make any comments (or even place an expression of interest),

the “ADD COMMENTS” page is working and anything put there will

arrive in my inbox and be actioned. Or just answer this (original) email.

Thank you in advance for anything you can do to “spread the word”…

All the best,

Dave.

Just a PS: I’m emailing this to individuals and to some group d-lists so I apologise

if you receive this email more than once. Also, I’ve used BCC for everyone’s privacy

so you MAY get this email forwarded from another recipient. Again, Sorry!
