OTU CLASS 1/71 FINAL EXERCISE LOCATION

Class 1/71: If anyone can pinpoint the exercise area for Ken, can you please let him know (with a CC to me)?

Name: Ken Chegwidden

Email: kcheg007@gmail.com

Message: I’ve been trying to track down exactly where the Final Exercise was held before graduation near Colo on the Putty Road for Class 1/71.
I do recall leaving the Putty Road and crossing a river where we had a ‘Contact Front’ with some RAAF guys as a mock ambush of Vietcong but can’t seem to find any miliary areas where that may have been. Does anyone have a map reference or something that would indicate where that was. The country had thick bush around it and the first night out was on a large, grassed area on the other side of a river. We then hiked into fairly rough hill country. Any suggestions of maps would be helpful. Thanks.

SCHEYVILLIAN 1 OF 2025 INPUT

Scheyvillians

The first Scheyvillian for 2025 is due out in early April, in time to have all the Chapters’ ANZAC Day details published.

To meet this aim I need your input by mid-March.

To save me changing the font on every single article, please send them in ‘Times New Roman’, Font 12!

Photographs are preferred in jpeg format, and if, possible, please send them attached to your email, separate from the article! If you have lots of photos to send you may need to send  several emails!

I look forward to a good selection of stories so that WE can keep up the high standard of OUR newsletter.

SCHEYVILLE OPENING 22 FEB 2025

Taskforce Veteran (TFV) have advised the following details for the opening of the refurbished OTU facilities at Scheyville.

Date: Saturday 22 February 2025

Time: Commencing 1000 hrs

Car Parking: The former Staff Car Park on the left side of the main road through the camp.

Entry and Visitor’s Book: enter via the side-door of the gymnasium where a Visitor’s Book will be positioned. Please sign the book!

Main Activity: The main activity will be undertaken in the garden between the former Gymnasium and the formers Cadets Mess.

Dress: While the event is given as neat casual, the association requests that Scheyvillians come attired as you would for ANZAC Day – jacket, tie and medals! ie – Put on a show (and make it easier to identify Scheyvillians!!)

Lunch: A light lunch will be provided in the gymnasium after the official activities.

Photo opportunity: it is hoped that we can get a group photo of all the Scheyvillians who attend!

There are currently some 30 Scheyvillians and family members who had indicated that they will attend. For catering purposes, if you have not already booked, please email Brett Wild (TFV & HAML) at chairman@hunteranzacmemorial.org.au and advise me at nkaleckie@optusnet.com.au

With invited VIPs, OTU-A visitors and their own members, TFV is expecting around 100 people to attend.
