Field Marshal John Monash Intro Letter

SALUTING MONASH COUNCIL                                      6 September 2016

Chairman: Tim Fischer AC

Greetings OTU graduates,   (Follow up to the OTU Tony Sonneveld lunch of excellence )

As Chair of the Saluting Monash Council, this is to follow up on the matter of the cause to obtain deserved posthumous promotion of Sir John Monash, whose penetrating eyes address you in the above picture. Please be advised the launch of the Saluting Monash Council will take place at the Shrine of Remembrance Melbourne on Sunday 6 November, more details on this can be obtained from info@salutingmonash.org.au and in short we seek support to obtain approval of the Jerilderie Proposition (Jerilderie in the Riverina is where Sir John Monash went to Primary School):

As a salute to all members of the AIF and following on the outstanding contribution of Sir John Monash to State and Nation before, during and after World War 1 and reflecting the fact that Sir John Monash received no Australian Awards or Honours post 11 November 1918, the Prime Minister approve by Government Gazette publication, the posthumous promotion of one step in rank of General Sir John Monash to the rank of Australian Field Marshal, with effect 11 November 1930, one year after Sir John Monash was eventually promoted to the rank of General.

The category of “Launch membership” is now available for those who support this cause, simply by the one off payment of $50 and this membership will close in November 2016. Note the aim is to see the promotion delivered in 2018, centenary of the Armistice year and in 2019 the Saluting Monash Council would disband with half of any net assets going to the General Sir John Monash Scholarship Foundation and half going to the Spirit of Australia organisation.

All donations are gratefully appreciated.
