Membership Reminder

OTU ASSOCIATION                                                                  2nd December 2021

NATIONAL COMMITTEE

MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL FY 2021/22 – REMINDER

Gentlemen,

With 621 membership renewals received to date for FY 2021/22, we are, at the half-way mark of the year, still somewhat short of achieving the 650 financial members we had at the end of last financial year. Interestingly, we have 120 members who were financial last year but are yet to renew this year.  If they all renew, we will have and exceptional year!

If you have received this letter, you are unfinancial.

With our next National Reunion proposed for October 2022, we are trying to keep our Association viable and our database up to date.  If you are intending to come on board and support the Association, your action on this front would be appreciated as soon as possible.   Three options are available when renewing membership:

  • Complete the Membership Renewal Form, attach a cheque and send it to our Treasurer,
  • Use the information of the Membership Renewal Form to pay by Direct Debit.
  • Access the website, www.otu.asn.au and pay by PayPal.

If you are paying by Direct Debit or PayPal and haven’t recently updated your personal details on the website, could you please take the time to complete and return the Membership Renewal Form so that we can confirm/amend your details for you.  If you are no longer interested in supporting the Association, please return the attached Membership Renewal Form, notated accordingly.

It would help if we could receive your renewal by 31 December 2021.

Cheers.

Our Christmas Lunch Wed 8 Dec

Hi All,

Our Christmas lunch is a ‘Go’ and is in the Bistro of the RACV Club at 12.30.on Wed 8 Dec, we have a lot of catching up to do!
So far,  so far based on last month’s communication, I have 21 acceptances. See the attached list (sent individually).
If your name is on the attached list you do not need to respond again unless you can’t make it.
Just for confirmation:
  • RACV requires double vax and digital proof of same checking in.
  • The Association will provide a $20 per head subsidy for financial members
  • We have a kitty of $40 to add in as well from the last lunch we held in 1853!!
  • I think we should opt for the festive menu unless I receive objections.
  • Our thanks also to Nick Callinan, who as tradition has it, will provide ‘pudding’.
Would appreciate advice on attendance by  Friday 3 December please so that I can confirm tables.
Please note 3/69 have 7 attendees ( so far) 🙂
Ian, would you be kind enough to send out an invite to Vic at large, the only provision being it will be first in best dressed if we are limited to numbers.
Cheers

The Deadly Game of Marbles

Gentlemen,

The following message has been received from Bill Moss (OTU 1/70):

The Scheyvillian No.2 2021 included a report on the Class 1/70 postponed 50th Anniversary Reunion held in Canberra over the Anzac Day weekend in 2021.  As described in that report, Class 1/70 commissioned a performance titled “The Deadly Game of Marbles”, a re-enactment of the passing of the National Service Act in November 1964 based on the Hansard transcripts.  The re-enactment was performed by an outstanding cast of local actors and included four songs especially written for the performance.  On Friday 23 April, all Reunion attendees together with special guests for the evening, Sir Peter Cosgrove (former CDF and former Governor General) and Lady Lynne Cosgrove participated in the performance as enthusiastic and rowdy back benchers in the House of Representatives chamber of Old Parliament House, the very chamber in which the actual events took place.

Since the National Service Act 1964 was the start of the Army journey for all Vietnam-era conscripts, the performance is especially relevant for all OTU Association members.  It was filmed and a video is available for viewing/download from this Dropbox link https://www.dropbox.com/t/i0yQMRk7g4JhogH7 .  The downloaded file gives best resolution but, since this is a large (8.8GB) file, downloading requires some patience depending on your internet connection.  You do not need to be a Dropbox subscriber to access the link, which will expire on 16 February 2022.

Well worth a look for all Scheyvillians.
