John Richard Rose was born in Tenterfield, NSW, in January 1952, and completed his secondary education at Tenterfield High School and went on to the University of New England where he gained subjects towards a Bachelor of Science. John was employed as an Engineering Draftsman with the Department of Main Roads before he enlisted in the Army as National Serviceman 2801038 on 27 September 1972, commencing at OTU with Class 4/72 on 15 October as a member of 6 Platoon, Chauvel Company. John was one of the majority of that class who decided when the new Labor Government ended National Service on 5 December 1972, to continue his Army Service.
With the OCS/OTU Class 2/72 now in its third of four terms at OTU, rank for ‘Nashos’ was hard to obtain, consequently, in his Senior Term John remained in Chauvel Platoon. Greg graduated with his class on 19 April 1973 and was allocated to the Artillery Corps and posted to the School of Artillery at North Head in Sydney.
From the newspapers it would appear that John was residing near Cowra, NSW, when he died March 2006. He was buried on 11 March 2006.
