PASSING OF LTCOL TERRY HAYES, DFC AND MEMORIAL SERVICE DETAILS

Gentlemen,

The OTU Association has been advised of the passing of LTCOL Terry Hayes, DFC, at the Gold Coast on 25th July 2019 after a long illness.

Terry was a larger than life Army Aviator who served the Corps in a variety of locations and appointments. He served in South Vietnam as a rotary wing pilot with 161 (Indep) Recce Flight and was shot down while on a mission. He managed to land the aircraft without further injury to his wounded passenger and was awarded the DFC for his outstanding airmanship throughout his tour.

Terry also served in PNG and was instrumental in locating a crashed RAAF Caribou and assisting in the rescue of the survivors.

Other appointments included as Adjutant OCS, Portsea and as an Instructor at the Land Warfare Centre at Canungra. A genuinely funny individual, Terry brightened up the environment wherever he went.

A Celebration of the Life of the late Terry Hayes, DFC, will take place on Friday 9th August 2019 at the South Port Yacht Club, 1 MacArthur Parade, Main Beach, Gold Coast, commencing at 1400 hrs.

OTU members are invited to attend and it is expected to be a large gathering.

A private family cremation will take place this week.
