OTU WEBSITE VIETNAM SERVICE UPDATE

Scheyvillians

The latest version of the ‘OTU Vietnam Service’ spreadsheet is now available on the OTU Website under the Members Dropdown.

A review of the spreadsheet found that there were 363 OTU Graduates who served in Vietnam post-Graduation, along with 8 who served in Vietnam Pre-OTU.

If you had Vietnam Service please check the spreadsheet and advise if the ‘official’ dates and units are the actual dates and units and if not advise Neil Leckie of the correct details.

Just Received – 50th Anniversary of the loss of RAAF Magpie-91 in Vietnam

Scheyvillians

Just received –  a request for physical support (rent-a-crowd).

On Tuesday (3 November) at the Vietnam Veterans Museum at Phillips Island there will be a service to commemorate the loss of the Canberra Bomber ‘Magpie-91’ on the Vietnam-Laos Border in 1970. Due to the COVID Restrictions Melbournians are not permitted to attend this service as Phillip Island is beyond their ‘non-essential’ travel limit.

The Air Force Association (formerly the RAAF Association) has arranged for the service to start at 1100 hours with a flypast by the RAAF Roulettes in a six aircraft formation in a “missing wingman” configuration, which is truly meaningful.

Lunch will be available on-site. Wear your ANZAC Day attire please!

If any Non-Melbourne Metro Scheyvillians can attend, please let me know by midday tomorrow (Monday 2 November)..

OTU WEBSITE STRUCTURES

All,

Due to the COVID Restrictions many members have had time to look for OTU Paperwork and photographs. Consequently, many of the Term “Structures and ‘Fathers’ and ‘Sons’” spreadsheets have been updated, or in some cases completed (in accordance with the General Instruction).

The latest version of each term’s “Structure and ‘Fathers’ and ‘Sons’” spreadsheet is now available on the OTU Website.

Including some ‘Terms’ that are the time between the Senior Class Graduating and the Junior Class Marching In there are 36 ‘Terms’, 22 of which are now complete with a further 5 well on the way.

Where a ‘Term’ is shown as V1 or higher, the details have been completed through access to the March In General Instruction for the Junior Class.

Where a ‘Term’ has a number less than V1 it is nearing completion, but needs a General Instruction to be finalised.

Where a ‘Term’ is in ‘Draft’ no details have been found.

All Scheyvillians are requested to look at each ‘Term’ where they were at Scheyville and check to see if the information about themselves is correct (eg Coy/Pl/Sect, Father and Son and Rank) and if the actual detail does not correspond with the Gen Instr detail, please advise the Editor, The Scheyvillian, at nkaleckie@optusnet.com.au or on 0400 573 802.

If you have a General Instruction for a ‘Term’ shown as Draft or a Version less than V1, or have some pages from such a Gen Instr, please advise The Editor.
