Born and educated at Wentworth NSW – the junction of the Murray and Darling Rivers. Joined the Post Master General’s Department in Jan 1964 as a Postal Clerk in Melbourne. Met my wife, Heather, during this time (we married in 1969 and have two children, Brett and Kim). Called up for NS in Apr 67 and entered OTU 2/67. Graduated to RA Sigs. Spent next 23 years in Australian Army. Mostly in units around Australia but had two years with British Army in West Germany in 1984/85. Had two postings to officer producing units - Instructor at OCS Portsea and 2IC CSC Duntroon. Attended RAAF Staff College and Joint Services Staff College. Did 4 years penance in Canberra as a staff officer in Army Office and Defence HQ. Retired from Army in 1990 as LTCOL and then spent 6 years in APS as Director Information Service, Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet. Left APS in 1996 and joined L J Hooker Real Estate selling houses in the northern suburbs of Canberra. Retired to live in Healesville Vic in 2004. Now enjoying community involvement (Men's Shed, U3A, Healesville Sanctuary, OTU Association), travelling, tennis, walking, gym, swimming, reading and watching my four grandchildren grow.
