OTU Weekend – Woodend – 19th to 21st November 2010 Program Woodend is a 50 minute drive from Melbourne on the Calder Freeway (via the Tullamarine Freeway). You should take the first Woodend exit left from the freeway onto the Calder Hwy (prev Blackforest Dve). Drive through Woodend shops (High St), up the hill and just past the Lancefield turnoff on the right you will see the Bentinck on the North-East corner. Friday 19th 2PM onwards – Arrive at the Bentinck Country House 8 Carlisle St Woodend (5427 2944) (www.bentinck.com.au) and check in. The Whitelaws will meet you there. Afternoon – wander around Woodend shops or choose from the Activities list at the end of this program. 5PM Meet at the Holgate Brewhouse (79 High St) for a taste of the local beers (www.holgatebrewhouse.com) 7PM Dinner at Zarbys Wine Bar & Bistro (84 High St). We have chosen a 2 course set menu (with plenty of choices) to keep costs reasonable. Please advise if any special meals are required. Saturday 20th Breakfast at the Bentinck (included in tariff) Continental buffet and cooked Australian breakfast. Morning – Activities of your choice. An option is the Trentham Farmers Market (9AM to 12 Noon) 14km away. 12.30 Lunch – At Pizza Verde 62 Piper St Kyneton followed by "shop-till-you-drop" in Piper St (15km from Woodend). Alternatively the Kyneton Museum in Piper St. Afternoon – Activities of your choice 7PM Dinner – In-house at the Bentinck. We have arranged a set menu of three courses with alternate dishes (2 selections) for each course. Please advise if any special meals are required. Sunday 21st Breakfast at the Bentinck (included in tariff) - Continental buffet and cooked Australian breakfast. Morning – Woodend Craft Market at the Community Centre (High St). 11AM - Morning tea/coffee with the Whitelaws at "Greenfields", 62 Donalds Road. Just south of the shops (and the railway line) there is a set of traffic lights at Ashbourne Road. Turn into Ashbourne Rd, follow the winding road for about 1.5 Km (to the 80Km/hr signs) and turn right into Donalds Road. About 0.5km up No. 62 is on the right just after Jason Drive. 12.30 – Lunch. You can do your own thing, or, if you advise in the affirmative the day before – the Whitelaw's will cater for a hamburger and sausage sizzle. Costs Accommodation – Bentinck $210 per night for a standard room, $230 per night for a superior room (both include full breakfast) Dinner (2 course) Friday at Zarbys - $34 per person Dinner (3 course) Saturday at the Bentinck - $58 per person All other meals and drinks at your expense. The restaurants are fully licensed (no BYO) but bring a few of your favourite tipples for pre-dinner drinks. Deposit – To secure your booking please forward a cheque for $200 deposit to Peter Whitelaw, PO Box 285, Albert Park 3206 before 5th November. Activities These are all optional and groups may choose to form at any time. Mt Macedon (8km away)– See the Memorial Cross, visit The Gallery, see Stephen Ryan's Yamina Rare Plants Nursery, coffee at the Mt Macedon Trading Post or the Top of the Range Café and Gallery, explore a wide range of magnificent Open Gardens, walks to the Camel's Hump and further. Hanging Rock (12km away) (entry fee $8 per car) – Explore the Rock and the grounds, coffee at the Hanging Rock Picnic Café. Golf – See www.woodend.golfclub.net.au Wineries – There are 46 wineries in the Macedon ranges. Nearest to Woodend are Mt Macedon Winery at Bawden Rd Woodend (www.mountmacedonwinery.com.au) and Hanging Rock Winery at Jim Rd Newham (www.hangingrock.com.au) (10km away) Fly-fishing lessons on the Whitelaw's dam. I have 3 fly rods and 15 rainbow trout. We practice catch and release. Tasmanian Lunch
Dennis Townsend and Rob Youl are planning an OTU lunch in Hobart at Angelsea Barracks in late November 2010. Their goal is to have a Victorian contingent of 5-10 members sharing a long afternoon with our Tasmanian comrades, and are considering a relaxed two day event overall so that wives and partners/friends can participate.
